Nicknames for Coastal Areas of Florida
Florida has nicknames for its sections of coastline. For example, the Jacksonville - St. Augustine area is known as the First Coast. Brevard County, home of Kennedy Space Center, Titusville, Cocoa Beach, Melbourne, and Palm Bay, is known as the Space Coast. Further south is the Treasure Coast with Vero Beach, Hutchinson Island, Fort Pierce and Stuart. Then comes the Gold Coast consisting of Palm Beach, Boca Raton, Fort Lauderdale, Miami, and Miami Beach. Key West and the Florida Keys are known as the Florida Keys.
The Florida Panhandle is sometimes called the Emerald Coast and includes Pensacola, Fort Walton Beach, Destin and Panama City. The Tampa Bay Area is sometimes called, the Suncoast and includes Tampa, Clearwater, and St. Petersburg. Southwest Florida which encompasses Cape Coral, Naples, Sarasota, Fort Myers, Sanibel Island, and Venice, is also known as well, Southwest Florida. The coast north of Tampa up to the Florida Panhandle may be identified as the Nature Coast.
